Elie
The Royal Burgh of Elie and Earlsferry was formerly a small fishing village, located in the East Neuk of Fife. With the heart of the fishing industry just along the coast in Pittenweem, Elie today is a picturesque village, which is a lot more relaxed and away from all the hustle and bustle of the daily fish markets.
Only a short one minute drive from Kilconquhar Castle Estate, guests can have a fun day out for all of the family. With the Firth of Forth right on the doorstep of Elie, hundreds of locals and tourists alike flock to the white sandy beaches during the summer months to soak up the sun, or take part in the many water-sport activities they have on offer. A visit to the Sailing Club is a must on a clear summer’s day, relax and unwind as you hire out your own little yacht for the day. If you don’t have very sturdy sea-legs then you can always admire the yachts from ashore as you walk along the Fife Coastal Path taking in the breath-taking views, or if you are looking for a more relaxing day then you can admire them from the Ship Inn’s beer garden, overlooking the long stretch of sands of Elie Beach, as you enjoy a glass of wine or two whilst indulging in the local cuisine they have on offer.
For the more adventurous, why not attend one of Ian Muir’s Golf Academies, where you can brush up on your golf skills by receiving personal tuition from our local Professional or if you are feeling more confident then compete against him on one of Scotland’s best 9-hole courses.
Various events are also held in Elie throughout the year. The annual event during the height of the summer is the Elie Fayre Day - a very popular event with something for all of the family. The day starts off with a parade through the town to the harbour, just before the last year’s Sea Queen crowns the winner of this year’s competition. There are numerous stalls to wander round and plenty of opportunities to sample the local cuisine before the serious competitions start. The Tug of War is always the main event attracting many competitors on the day which is usually followed by a well deserved drink in the beer tent, overlooking the harbour. For the children, there are many beach activities, funfair rides and bouncy castles to keep them entertained.
Or if visiting later in the year, remember to wrap up warm in November before attending one of Fife’s most spectacular firework displays! With stunning views over the Firth of Forth, there is no better place to be to view the spectacular display marking the failure of Guy Fawkes’ gunpowder plot.
