The East Neuk is a remarkable cluster of villages that punctuate Fife’s golden coastline. The cobbled wynds, red pan-tiled roofs and ancient harbours that were once the hub of a bustling fishing trade forge picturesque communities, steeped in both history and culture.
The seaside village of Crail is graced with the most photographed harbour in Scotland. Be sure to wonder down the ‘Hen’s Ladder’, the ancient steps that cascade from the west gate to the harbour, where the best views can be seen on your descent. Still a thriving community, Crail has a number of shops, restaurants and pubs each offering a fine welcome to any visitors.
Anstruther lies just a few miles west of Crail and is the largest of the East Neuk towns. Here you will find unique, shell decorated houses perched on narrow streets and of course Scotland’s most famous Fish and Chip shop. The Scottish Fisheries Museum, which houses local and international fishing treasures is a treat for the reminiscing visitor. With boat trips, outdoor activities, restaurants and cafes, this traditional village has something for everyone.
A short walk from Anstruther will bring you to Pittenweem, a bustling village, steeped with culture. The village hosts a week long Arts Festival, with over 100 exhibits is held in August and is a popular with locals and visitors alike. There are a number coffee shops and art galleries in the village, making this the perfect opportunity to buy a few souvenirs.
Originally a fishing village, the picturesque village of Elie is only 1 mile from Kilconquhar and offers something for all the family. With unique shops and a variety of small cafes and restaurants for adults and a large selection of water sports available at the beautiful beach, your sure to have a fun day in Elie.
St. Andrews, the home of golf, is only a short drive away. The charming streets and ancient architecture make the town unforgettable. There are a number of visitor attractions including Golf Museum, St Andrews Aquarium, St Andrews Castle and don't forget to blow the cobwebs away with a stroll along The West Sands.
